Ivan Milisic

Ivan Milisic in his studio

Ivan Milisic is a Paris-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of body, space, and materiality. His practice spans painting, drawing and installation, creating a dialogue between figuration and abstraction through an experimental approach to gesture and texture. Trained as an architect, his sensitivity to structure and spatial dynamics informs his compositions, transforming the canvas into an immersive realm where movement, tension, and emotion coexist.

Milisic's work is distinguished by his meticulous study of hands and the human body on large scale paintings and drawings, recurring motifs that serve as conduits for themes of communication, solitude, and belonging. His process involves layering, scratching, erasure, and gestural paint application, producing large surfaces rich with history and depth. He navigates between control and spontaneity, allowing the raw physicality of his materials to shape the narrative of each piece.

With a career spanning international exhibitions and artistic residencies, Milisic has showcased his work in galleries across Europe. His interdisciplinary approach, influenced by his architecture, music, and dance background, continues to push the boundaries of contemporary painting.

Ivan is one of the featured artists in the #29 print issue of the "Create!" magazine.
